A Note on Dirichlet Characters

چکیده
Denoting by r(k, m, p) the first occurrence of m consecutive fcth power residues of a prime p = 1 (mod k), we show that r(k, m, p) > c log p for infinitely many p (c is an absolute constant) provided that k is even and m ä 3.

A RESEARCH NOTE ON THE SECOND ORDER DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION
Let U(t, ) be solution of the Dirichlet problem y''+( t-q(t))y= 0 - 1 t l y(-l)= 0 = y(x), with variabIe t on (-1, x), for fixed x, which satisfies the initial condition U(-1, )=0 , (-1, )=1. In this paper, the asymptotic representation of the corresponding eigenfunctions of the eigen values has been investigated . Furthermore, the leading term of the asymptotic formula for ...

Theorem 1.1. Let G be a group of Dirichlet characters modulo n, and KG the associated field. Fix a prime number p, and let H1 ⊂ H2 ⊂ G be the groups of χ such that χ(p) = 1 or χ(p) 6= 0 respectively. Then G/H2 ∼= IKG,p ⊂ Gal(KG/Q), and G/H1 ∼= DKG,p (note that these are non-canonical isomorphisms). We are now ready to prove the theorem on factoring Dedekind zeta functions of sub-cyclotomic fiel...
متن کاملAn explicit density estimate for Dirichlet L-series
Dirichlet L-series L(s, χ) = ∑ n≥1 χ(n)n −s associated to primitive Dirichlet characters χ are one of the keys to the distribution of primes. Even the simple case χ = 1 which corresponds to the Riemann zeta-function contains many informations on primes and on the Farey dissection. There have been many generalizations of these notions, and they all have arithmetical properties and/or application...
متن کاملNotes on Primes in Arithmetic Progression
The following is a quick set of notes of some properties of Dirichlet characters, in particular, how they are used to prove the infinitude of primes in arithmetic progressions. These notes are from from An Invitation to Modern Number Theory, by myself and Ramin Takloo-Bighash. As this is a modified snippet from the book, references to other parts of the book are displayed as ??. 1. Dirichlet Ch...

Here ∑∗ denotes summation over primitive characters χ (mod q), φ(q) denotes the number of primitive characters (mod q), and ω(q) denotes the number of distinct prime factors of q. Note that φ(q) is a multiplicative function given by φ(p) = p − 2 for primes p, and φ(p) = p(1 − 1/p) for k ≥ 2 (see Lemma 1 below). Also note that when q ≡ 2 (mod 4) there are no primitive characters (mod q), and so ...
